PODERcard Debit

Jess was responsible for the user experience and user interface design of the whole application from enrollment to peer to peer transactions. Jess and the engineering team had a three month timeline to design and build V1 of PODERcard.

  • Reached #4 in finance top charts

  • 4.8 app store rating

  • 1 million + downloads

  • Reached #39 in all apps top charts

  • Sole designer

  • 3 month timeline

Challenge

The user experience and interface was de-prioritized in the first iteration of the product. As a result, the app accumulated bad reviews and an overall rating of 2.7 in the app store. We needed to start from scratch and re-design the experience before our next round of funding.

Opportunity

Redesign the UX UI of the app as a whole

Address current the gaps and painpoints in the UX

Implement a clean and visually appealing interface

Ship a new and improved design in time to help the funding efforts for series B

Research + Ideation Phase

Being in a series A startup at the time meant having tight timelines. I began conducting my own research since we did not have a research team in place. I went to the consulates and conducted in person interviews about their hardships in the immigration process to get a better sense of their struggles and painpoints. I also developed a set of questionnaires and planned a focus group of 9 target users to get further insight into their needs. Developing empathy was crucial to the success of the design.

UI

One of the questionnaires for the focus group involved color schemes and different UI approaches. Majority of the focus group gravitated towards bright green gradients.

For components, I wanted to take a clean and modern approach that would make the experience easy to navigate but also visually appealing to our core audience.
